What happened

An impersonation scam involving cryptocurrency was reported on 16 September 2026. Victim reported to the police department that on 8/24/26 she fell victim to a Venmo Business Account scam which started on Facebook Marketplace. Victim was contacted by a profile under the name of "@luann.pitch.090949" who wanted to purchase something the victim had listed. Victim was contacted by an individual claiming to be with Venmo. Approximately $6,588 was lost - $3000 of this to crypto.
