(Facebook) Scam Links: https://www.facebook.com/reel/838572645884546 https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1AvYc3f4ng/ Description of Scam I observed a WhatsApp status shared by a user that contained a Facebook Reel believed to be part of a romance scam funnel. The publicly distributed Reel uses scripted romantic solicitation designed to simulate private one-to-one communication. The video includes statements such as: “Good afternoon, handsome.” “Are you looking for a girlfriend?” “I would be all yours.” “I would pamper you like no one else.” “Tap the arrow once and my WhatsApp will appear.” The content instructs viewers to “tap the arrow,” implying that doing so will initiate private contact or reveal a WhatsApp connection. On Facebook Reels, however, the arrow icon is the Share button, not a private messaging feature. The video is made with pictures of Sophia Rains manipulated with AI. This creates a deceptive mechanism in which: The viewer believes they are initiating private communication Instead, they publicly share the content The platform algorithm amplifies the Reel Additional users are exposed and potentially misled The associated Facebook page contains multiple videos using identical romantic bait language and the same call-to-action, indicating a repeatable and coordinated engagement strategy rather than isolated content. How the Scam Works A public Reel simulates personal romantic outreach. Viewers are instructed to “tap the arrow.” Users unknowingly share the content instead of initiating private contact. The content spreads through social graph amplification. Viewers are encouraged to move off-platform to WhatsApp. Redirection to WhatsApp is consistent with known romance scam funnels that often escalate into financial requests, identity harvesting, or emotional manipulation.
