ProjectUplift Students scam

I received a text message informing me I was approved for student loan forgiveness and to contact a counselor with questions. I stupidly assumed it was FAFSA. I called the number provided and spoke with a counselor. He told me his full name and that he worked for Project Student Uplift, an organization in association with the Department of Education. Stupidly, I gave him my state, gross income, student loan balance, and household size information. He then told me an amount I qualified for in student loan reduction after a down payment or something. At this point, I finally wised up (not a moment too soon), realized it was not federally affiliated and ended the call.
